La fotografia naturalistica di Vincent Munier

In questo appuntamento dell’ArchiMinimalista vorrei condividere con voi la visione di alcune immagini naturalistiche di Vincent Munier, un autore giovane ma che, nonostante le diversità, potrebbe essere paragonato a Sebastião Salgado, senza tuttavia risultare inappropriato.
Si tratta evidentemente di immagini molto differenti da quelle dei precedenti appuntamenti ed altrettanto distanti dallo stile di questo gruppo, ma la conoscenza e il sapere non hanno vincoli da rispettare. In queste immagini l’utilizzo della post produzione è ininfluente, sono foto particolari che nella maggior parte dei casi utilizzano la tecnica high key. Bisogna osservarle con attenzione per non lasciarsi sfuggire neanche il più piccolo dettaglio.
“Entro in un altro mondo. In certi istanti il silenzio è totale, quasi spaventoso. Allora realizzo che anche il minimo scricchiolio dei miei passi sulla neve risuona e immagino che potrebbe risvegliare un orso bianco, addormentato dietro qualche collina a pochi chilometri… “
Sono queste le parole di Vincent Munier che descrivono in pieno il suo modo di sentire la fotografia. Vincent Munier, fotografo naturalista francese, nato nel 1976 nella Lorena, trascorre l’infanzia nelle terre montuose dei Vosgi, scoprendo man mano luoghi naturali e suggestivi nel totale rispetto della vita selvaggia della natura. La fotografia diventa il suo mezzo artistico per catturarne il fascino. Si specializza in fotografie scattate in pieno inverno, in condizioni estreme, influenzato fortemente dallo stile giapponese e si caratterizza per la sua arte fotografica naturalistica minimalista.
Viene premiato tre volte dal Wildlife Prix del BBC, il più prestigioso premio della fotografia naturalistica. Nel 2009 è notato da Nikon che gli propone di testare la nuova reflex D3 in condizioni estreme per due settimane in Scandinavia.
Da questo lavoro nasce il suo primo libro: “Blanc Nature” che lo fa conoscere al grande pubblico. La sua attività prosegue, sempre in situazioni estreme, viaggiando dall’Artico all’Antartico, attraverso la Siberia, il Tibet, il nord del Canada, lungo le deserte distese di neve e ghiacci alla ricerca di tutti gli animali che popolano queste zone impervie e dove la difficoltà di rintracciare il soggetto, anche il più schivo, non lo spaventa. Dai suoi scatti emergono foto di una poesia e di un’essenzialità assoluta, che incantano e catalizzano lo spettatore.
In this ArchiMinimalist’s issue I’d like to share with you some naturalistic images of Vincent Munier, a young, emerging author, that in his genre could be compared to Sebastião Salgado. In this case we are dealing with a very different kind of photography in comparison to the that presented in the previous issues and also the author’s naturalistic imgages have nothing to do with the typical ArchiMinimal Group’s images, but knowledge and learning have no constraints.
In these images any post-processing technique is irrelevant, they are mostly executed according to the the high key technique. They are very captivating and to be observed carefully, not to miss even the smallest detail.
“I go into another world. Sometimes the silence dominates everything, it is almost scary.. Then I realize that even the slightest crunch of my footsteps on the snow can produce a sound which could awaken a white bear, asleep behind some hill a few kilometers away…”
This is how Vincent Munier describes the way he feels this kind of photography. Vincent Munier is a French wildlife photographer, born in 1976 in Lorraine, spending his childhood in the Vosges region, discovering naturistic and beautiful places in the total respect of the wilderness of nature. Photography becomes its artistic mean to capture its charm. His specialty is shooting in the winter season, possibly in the most extreme conditions. His photography is strongly influenced by the Japanese style and is characterized by his sharp minimalistic approach applied to the wildlife photography.
He has been awarded three times with the BBC Wildlife Prix, the most prestigious award for nature photography. In 2009, Nikon noticed his artwork and appointed him to test the new reflex camera D3 in extreme conditions for two weeks in Scandinavia.
It is from this experience that his first book “Blanc Nature” came to live, making him known and popular to a wider audience. Vincent continues with his photographic activity, always shoting in extreme conditions, traveling from the Arctic to the Antarctic, through Siberia, Tibet and Northern Canada, along the lonely snow and ice lands, in search of all the animals that populate those inaccessible areas, without being even scared by the difficulty of tracing even the most shy and hidden subjects. His images are pure poetry and essentiality, charming and catalyzing the observer’s eye.
